| When exercise lands you in deep water | | | | | Water Resistance Training (WRT) is a cross training exercise which incorporates Deep Water running. Water Resistance Training is a fast growing exercise trend for athletes and the general community. Within the media we see a lot of sports teams taking part in a variety of water activities to increase their recovery rate and to build up their endurance, speed and strength. This form of physical activity reduces the impact on the skeletal system while the water acts as a massaging effect (similar to hydrotherapy) on the muscles. Water Resistance Training and Deep Water Running allow each person to train at a high intensity without the impact on the joints and without delayed muscle soreness. |
| Water Resistance Training is undertaken with participants suspended in deep water by a buoyancy belt and then guided through a variety of exercise drills. The movement in the water results in constant and continual resistance throughout all phases of the action. It is this continual work against the resistance that results in increased muscle tone, power development and endurance. Water provides 12 times the resistance of air and Water Resistance Training allows each participant to establish their desired intensity and speed of the movement. When exercised at a high intensity, running in deep water is 2.5 times harder than running on land, yet there is no impact during the activity. | | | | | | BENEFITS OF WATER RESISTANCE TRAINING | One of the main benefits of Water Resistance Training is being able to exercise on a regular basis at a high intensity without the delayed onset of muscle soreness. | | | Additional benefits include | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Improvements in cardiovascular fitness | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Increases in muscle strength and tone | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Burns calories | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Assists with injury rehabilitation and recovery
